Pictures taken from my late September 1999 backpacking trip to Lake Gibralter
in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Click on the image to enlarge.
This was taken on the Peak-to-Peak
highway and is one of my favorite pictures from the trip. I love how the sun lit
up the aspens, and the tall evergreen in the center.
This area is typically very full
of eager hikers, but I had the whole parking lot to myself (except for an
abandoned car). During my trip, I did not see a single person for over 30 hours.
When I came out of trees into the
clearing the following view awaited me. Truly awe inspiring. However, I had
higher hopes on the picture. I think it was too bright for my 400 film.
Welcome to the Indian Peaks Wilderness, named so, because of the many Native
American named peaks located in the area.
I almost stepped on this poor guy.
Turns out he was frozen solid as a doornail. The 'interesting' subject placement
was cause by forgetting that close up pictures with my camera use a different
view.
The
head waters of the St Vrain River start in this valley.
Here is a partially frozen
pond, with Elk Tooth mountain in the background.
I would have to say my room had
one heck of a speculator view, with the Continental Divide to the West and the
plains to the East.
For those that know me, I
take way too many of these shots.
This picture was taken from a ledge above my tent. What is
interesting is it really was not all that flat where my tent was located. See
the previous picture The Room with a View. Must have been the straight down
angle.
Elk Tooth
Mountain was one of the last peaks to say goodnight to the setting sun.
It was a bit chilly,
before the sun came up, but I was not disappointed in the views. The lights of
North Boulder can be seen in the distance.
There was a unique rock that was
perched on a couple of points. The picture was taken with a flash looking toward
the sunrise. The picture taken without the flash, was not developed by the
Processing. Must have been too dark.
Here is a composite panoramic
view of three different pictures. Sometimes these don't turn out very well, but
I am fairly happy with this one. Sometimes one picture is just not enough.
The thumb print
does not show it, but there was a very deep orange glow reflection on Lake
Gibralter.
A self-timer picture of
me, that only shows my silhouette.
Well, the sun finally
decides to shine on me. Good morning to you Sun. I still have a couple of
pictures on another roll, so stay tuned.
When I am alone in the City,
I feel left out.
When I am alone in the Wilderness,
I feel THEY are left out.
Later, Mike...
